The First team faced Nailsea and Tickenham at the Mill in the Western League
Torpoint Athletic earned themselves a valuable point at The Mill on Saturday afternoon and pulled three points away from drop zone when they came from behind to share the spoils with ‘The Swags’. They could count themselves unlucky, as they had the better share of the possession in second half and could have nicked the three points in the final ten minutes. In a fast tempo open ten minutes, both sides shared half chances between them, but on the 12th minute the visitors took the lead. Charlie Saunders for the visitors was fouled in the area by Elliot Crawford for the referee to award a penalty. Owen Humphries despatched the penalty to the right, Ryan Rickard the Torpoint keeper got a hand to the ball but it slip past, unlike the heroics of last week. Two minutes later, the hosts had a great chance of equalising when a Sam Morgan sent a cross to the area, Curtis Damerell was waiting at the near post, his header just when inches wide from close range. Halfway through the first half, good build up play by the hosts played the ball onto Jed Smale, his shot is well saved by Jakob Glover the visiting keeper. Just past the half hour mark a cross into the area finds Owen Haslam who’s header is looped just over the bar from close range. On the 38th minute, the hosts equalise when a Sam Morgan corner curls past everyone, taking a slight deflection off Damerell as the ball nestles in the back of goal. With five minutes remaining of the half, Humphries for the Nailsea has jinxing run down the left he cuts into the area, his shot is well saved by Rickard, then with a minute remaining, Will Sullivan for the hosts cuts into the area from the wing, his shot is blocked by Glover. Two minutes into the second half Sullivan is played in to the area, his effort is pushed around the post by Glover in a great save. On the hour mark, the hosts make a change up front and Ryan Richards comes on for James Rowe and the Richards and Damerell strike partnership is reunited! On the 78th minute, the hosts have a corner taken by Mason Elliot, Richards is found in the area and his headed effort go towards goal, the keeper parried the ball away and the loose ball falls to Joe Rapson, his shot is cleared off the line by Nailsea’s Jake White. With three minutes remaining, Damerell and Richards exchange passes and Richards shot is well saved low by Glover, Rapson again gets the loose ball in the follow up shot, but its saved again.
