In the Western League, we faced high flyers
Portishead Town at their newly refurbished ground. The hosts had the better of the possession in the opening 30 minutes but were unable to break through a stubborn Torpoint backline. The deadlock was eventually broken with Torpoint unable to clear from a corner, Punselie made no mistake when the ball dropped to him from 10 yards. The hosts quickly doubled their advantage after an initial effort was ruled out for offside, the referee adjudged there to be a foul on the build up the warranted a penalty kick which was duly dispatched by Egan. The hosts now in full control grabbed a third when the ever present Murray crossed for Punselie to grab his second of the game.

The second half started much like the end of the first with Portishead dominant in possession and moving the ball quickly around a slick surface. A forth was scored in the 58th minute with Feltham cooly slotting past Rickard. Torpoint grew into the game late as the managed to gain possession and momentum which was crashed when Murray hammered home from all of 25 yards moments after Lucas had sent his effort wide of the Portishead post. Torpoint did manage to get a consolation when Hird drove at the back line only to be fouled 8 yards out, Skipper Morgan dispatched the penalty. There was still time for a further pressure on the Portishead goal when Larson did well to beat his man but neither McCallion or Smale could put home.

At the Mill the seconds faced Polperro in the Cup

The Second team made it through to the next round of the Cornwall Intermediate Cup as they beat Polperro 3-1 at home. The draw for the next round will be in the next week.

Youth Team Round up:

Penttorr U15 and the U14’s will be top of the league for Christmas after more comprehensive victories against Saltash and Ivybridge respectively.

Penttorr are on maximum points after 10 matches.
