Week round up for all teams in action, including Match reports for our games v St Blazey and Clevedon

Torpoint Athletic v St Blazey
Tuesday 21st January

Torpoint Athletic continue to pull themselves away from the bottom two and are now six points above the relegation zone with victory over strugglers St Blazey at The Mill on a wet Tuesday night. Both goals were scored in the first half from Freddie Chapman and Ryan Richards, his first goal for the club, since returning from Buckland Athletic just over a week ago. The hosts made their intent clear right from the start and had their first chance on the third minute when Elliot Crawford put a ball onto Richards and his header was crossed to Curtis Damerell who headed just wide of the post. Six minutes later Torpoint took the lead when a Crawford free kick out wide on the left just outside of the area found Richards to blast his header home at the far post from 10 yards. Just past the quarter hour mark, the visitors had a good chance to equalise, when Tom Hensman dribbled past several home players from just inside his own half, his effor from just inside the area was well saved by Ryan Rickard, the home keeper. A few minutes later, Damerell for the hosts pulls the ball back to James Rowe on the edge of the area, his shot is saved by visiting keeper, then right down the other end of pitch a St Blazey corner is punched away by Rickard, the loose ball is picked up by Will Tinsley who effort from just inside the area goes looping over the crossbar. Just past the half hour mark, the hosts double their lead when a Elliot Mason cross from the left into the area for Damerell, who won the header, the ball drops to Chapman who clinically finishes from 8 yards. With four minutes remaining another St Blazey corner falls to Hensman who’s close range effort is well saved by Rickard, then Geroge Newton a minute later low shot is also well saved. In the final minute of the half, Torpoint’s Elliot Crawford 60 yard long ball finds Will Sullivan on the left, cuts inside the defender, his effort hits the base of the post, but bounces clear. Three minutes after the restart, Hensman for the visitors has another blistering run from the halfway line, after beating two Torpoint players is shot is blocked by Rickard. Just before the hour mark, the hosts have good possession when a Richards cross is found by Sullivan in the area, his shot is lifted over the cross bar. Ten minutes later Richards laid the ball onto Joe Rapson who turned in the area, his shot from 18 yards goes just wide. On the 71st minute, the hosts could have extended their lead when good build up play finds Torpoint’s Ryan Richards who blasts home from 20 yards, but the linesman adjudged him to be off side. Then with seven minutes seven minutes remaining, Crawford crosses the ball to Sullivan who effort from just inside the area just goes over the bar

Clevedon Town v Torpoint Athletic
Saturday 25th January

Torpoint Athletic’s three match undefeated run came to an end in North Somerset on Saturday afternoon where they were defeated by top of the league outfit Clevedon Town who are highly fancied for gaining promotion as champions this season. With a brace from the league’s leading goal scorer Freddie King and goal a piece from George King and Sam Beresford that gave the hosts a two point advantage at the summit of the table from second placed Portishead Town who are second. The visitors did make Clevedon work hard for their victory, with the visitors putting in a good performance.
The hosts made their intentions known on the second minute when they played the ball down to Cam Steer who found Freddie King in the area, his shot is deflected wide, then four minutes later Syd Camper played the another good ball into the area to Lucas Vowles, his effort is also deflected wide.
A minute later, Torpoint had their first chance of the afternoon when the ball is played down the right to Will Sullivan, his shot out wide was blocked by home keeper James Dunn. Just past the quarter hour mark, Vowles for the hosts tests visiting keeper Ryan Rickard with a shot from 15 yards, then five minutes later a Steer’s free kick found Joe Teall at the far post, he heads the ball back across goal to Vowles, to head his effort over the bar. Just past the half hour mark, Torpoint’s Joe Rapson picks up the ball half way in the hosts half, he beats to two defenders, his shot is collected by Dunn. With five minutes remaining of the half the hosts take the lead. Camper found Camm in the area who’s effort is partly cleared and the ball falls to Freddie King on the edge of the box, he blasts home past Rickard.
In the final minute before the break, the hosts double their advantage when Freddie King is adjudged to be tripped on the edge of the area, he took the free kick, which curled over the Torpoint wall and rebounded off the underside of the cross bar and into the net. Just past the hour mark the visitors were given a life line when James Rowe crosses the ball into the area from the bye line to Will Sullivan, who smashes the ball home from close range. This gave the visitors confidence and were now creating half chances as they were looking for an equaliser. With ten minutes remaining the hosts restored their two goal advantage when Freddie King and Elliot Nicholson exchanged passes and played in George King who fired home with a bullet from 30 yards giving Rickard no chance, in the goal of the match. Three minutes into stoppage time, the hosts grabbed their fourth goal of the match when a George King’s free kick into the box is headed back across goal by Camper to Glen Hayer, his header is blocked by Rickard, the loose ball is found by Sam Beresford, who smashed home from close range.

Third Team

The Third team had an exhilarating game on the road with a 4-4 draw with Liskeard on Saturday, it’s a trip to face Looe Town next up.

Only 1 game survived the storm with the u13’s losing away at Callington Colts Reds u13’s 6-2
