Torpoint are through to the Walter C Parson League Cup second round and will face Newquay at home on Saturday 16th October after beating a determined Dobwalls side under The Mill’s floodlights on Tuesday evening.
The match was only six minutes old when a Callum Thompson through ball in found Gary Hird to head home past the visiting keeper Jordan Duffey, to put the hosts in front.
Eight minutes later, Torpoint doubled their lead when Mike Lucas shot home from a rebound after the visiting keeper parried Ryan Richards initial shot.
Just after the half hour mark, Kirk Smith for the visitors found a loose ball in the area to shoot low from 8 yards, only for home keeper Jason Peters to make a fine save.
With ten minutes remaining of the first half Dobwalls reduced the arrears when a free kick by Ray Spear found Stuart Morgan to head home.
Five minutes after the restart, Torpoint had a free-kick in to the area by Paul Heveran, which found the onrushing Lucas to fire home from close range for his second of the evening and restored the two goal advantage.
On the 74th minute, the hosts extended their lead further when Gary Hird ran through the visiting defence and took a clinical finish for his brace.
With seven minutes remaining Dobwalls had a penalty when home keeper Peters tangled with Stuart Morgan for referee to award a soft penalty. Kelvin Fyneboy convert the spot kick for the final goal of this cup tie.
