Torpoint Athletic 6-1 Holsworthy AFC
SWPL Premier Division East
With Robbie Morris at The Mill
Torpoint Athletic bounced back from their Cornwall Senior Cup exit last week in emphatic style in front of a decent crowd of 118, when they beat a young spirited Holsworthy side that have had found a little bit of form recently.
The home side had an early chance on the eighth minute, when a Darren Hicks low angled shot from 25 yards went just inches past the far post.
On the 12th minute, the hosts opened the scoring when a long angled 30 yard pin point cross from John Heveran found Ryan Richards to shot home from 10 yards. This came after a string of half chances by the visitors who tried to put the pressure on their hosts.
Just before the half hour mark The Magpies equalised from Tom Bray.
Then a couple of minutes later, the visitors were looking at taking the lead when Ollie Bray had a one on one with Peters to make a fine save.
Two minutes before half time, another good cross found Curtis Damerell to calmly slot home from 6 yards to put the home side in front.
Four minutes after the restart The Point extended their lead when Ryan Richards had a free kick on the edge of the area. Richards took the free kick that bounced off the Holsworthy wall for Richards to have another go, the ball hit the visiting Sam Watts in the head when he tried to turn the ball away, but instead he turned it in to his own net.
Three minutes later the home side scored their fourth of the afternoon when a Bradley Robins corner found Sam Hillson to shoot home from 10 yards.
On the hour mark, Paul Heveran crossed the ball to Callum Thompson to head the ball and hit the post.
Five minutes later, a pinpoint cross in by Damerell found the on rushing John Heveran to shoot home from 6 yards.
On the 67th minute the visitors had a good chance the reduce the arrears through Renz Farnican who shot from 10 yards for Peters to make another fine save of the afternoon.
On the 71st minute after a number of shots on target Callum Thompson found a way through for Torpoint’s six goal of the afternoon.
With ten minutes remaining, Mike Lucas made a great a run down the right hand side for the home side, to cut in and sent in an acute angle shot from 25 yards, which just brushed the cross bar.
